Kan magretiro, si Jaishankar nagbali sa Tata Sons bilang Presidente, Global Corporate Affairs.[5] Kan 2019, siya nagawadan kan Padma Shri, an ikaapat na pinakahalangkaw na onra kan Indya.[6] Kan 30 Mayo 2019, siya nanumpa' komo ministro nin gabinete sa ikaduwang ministriya Modi.[7] Siya ginibong Minister of External Affairs kan 31 Mayo 2019. Siya an enot na dating Foreign Secretary na namayo sa Ministriyang Panluwas bilang Gabinete na Ministro.[8][9]
