ANTONIO BERMEJO CHAVEZ graduated his primary education at the San Jose Central School and pursued his high school education at the Camarines Sur State Agricultural College now the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA).

Equipped only with strong faith in God and sheer determination to finish his college education beyond the financial constraints that most frequently hinder him to finish college, he was able to pursue his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the Technical Institute of the Philippines (TIP) and University of the East (UE) as a self-supporting student.

He values education very much like a treasure that could not be taken away or stripped out instantly. This is the reason why as the Local Chief Executive of San Jose, he allocated more funds for his scholarship program for the poor but deserving students. In fact, it is his utmost desire of having one college graduate in every family to stand as a model for others.

As a student, he was very active in extra-curricular activities that eventually molded him into becoming a responsible youth and student leader with genuine concern over the welfare of others.

He was the former Chairman of the Kabataang Barangay in Metro Manila in 1983-1984. He received the prestigious award as an Outstanding Student Leader of the Year in 1983 which recognition was given by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos in Malacañan Palace.

As a student leader, he attended several trainings and conferences abroad:

    • Youth Training Conference in 1983
    • Head of Youth and Students’ delegation during the International Youth Year in Moscow, Russia in 1984 and 1985
    • Head of Youth and Students’ leaders in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1984.

As a public servant, he held the following achievements:

    • 10 years as Barangay Captain of Brgy. Pugay
    • 5 years as Liga ng mga Barangay President
    • 2 years as the Political Officer of the Kabataang Barangay National Secretariat headed by now Governor Imee Marcos
    • Former Secretary to the Mayor during the time of Mayor Ciriaco San Jose

And in the private profession, he is a

    • Broadcaster and Public Relations practitioner

From 2010 up to the present as the Municipal Mayor of San Jose, he earned several prestigious awards; and in the political history of San Jose, he is ever the first multi-awarded Local Chief Executive.

Because of his outstanding performance and genuine concern about the progress and development of the town, he received the following awards for the Local Government Unit of San Jose:

    • 5th Salud Bicolnon Awardee-Best Implementer of National TB Control Program, a Department of Health Regional Award, given in Legazpi City on December 12, 2014.
    • Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance, given by the Council for the Welfare of Children and DSWD in Legazpi City on December 5, 2014.
    • Sandugo Local Government Executive Award, a Department of Health Regional Award given by the Center for Health Development-Bicol, 2012 & 2013
    • Most Business Friendly Municipality, Provincial Capitol Complex, Pili, Camarines Sur, December 3, 2012
    • Seal of Good Housekeeping-Good Governance, Department of Interior and Local Government, 2011
    • Top Performer on Economic Enterprises among 4th Class Municipalities in the Bicol Region, Bureau of Local Government Finance Region V, May 2011

This year 2015 definitely, he will receive again the following awards:

    • 2014 Seal of Good Local Governance for Good Financial Housekeeping
    • Department of Health National Awardee on Outstanding Local Health Governance.
